Gwen Lyshik Wagner, 60, of Warachie Lane, Carlsbad, NM, passed away January 14, 2026 at her home.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Monday, January 19, 2026 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 PM, Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Sunset Church of Christ with Ray Young officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM. Gwen was born September 23, 1965 in Roswell, NM and raised by Pete and Dorothy Lyshik. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1984. Gwen received a bachelor's in accounting from Eastern New Mexico University. She cherished the years of being a mother and raising her four children, and was affectionately known as "Mama Gwen" to many.
Gwen married Steve Wagner on March 23, 2018. Their marriage was marked by unwavering love, and a shared commitment to their vows, truly living out “in sickness and in health.” Steve and her children cared for Gwen remaining by her side til the end. She worked in several entities involving WIPP for a number of years while maintaining other part time jobs to ensure all needs were met. Her kids say that she’s is the hardest worker they know. But her main title and the one she took the most pride in and excelled at the most was being a mother. Gwen enjoyed sitting out on the porch swing with a cup of coffee and a little bit of French vanilla coffee creamer. The church was her family, she spent a lot of time with them even outside the church doors. She loved to go look at paint color at Sherwin Williams because she often got the itch to paint the walls in her house a new color. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, puzzles, coloring, reading Karen Kingsbury books and anything that made time slow down just a little. She was preceded in death by her biological mother, Robyn Mercer and beloved parents, Pete and Dorothy Lyshik.
Survivors are her husband, Steve Wagner; children: Johnna Yeager and partner, Shawn Salazar, Sidney Franco and husband, Andrew, Haden Harper, Lacy Thompson; stepson, Graham Wagner; grandchildren: Maylee Jane Franco and Rylee Dingler; father, Mel Branson, and numerous cousins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Franco, Shawn Salazar, Matt Methola, Ross Kirkes, Cameron Wells, Graham Wagner.
