Greg Barela

Greg Barela, 39, of Westernway Street, Carlsbad, NM, passed away January 22, 2022 in El Paso, Texas. Visitation will be 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Monday, January 31, 2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at San Jose Catholic Church followed by Liturgy outside the Mass at 10:00 AM with Deacon Manuel Chavez officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery.

Greg was born June 1, 1982 in Carlsbad, NM to Raymond and Grace (Graziano) Barela. He attended Carlsbad Schools. Greg learned the welding trade at a young age and continued to work as a welder his entire career. He detailed cars and was a perfectionist and took great pride in his work. Greg enjoyed the outdoors, drinking a cold Coors Light, cracking jokes, especially “your mom” jokes, and watching his favorite movies: Goonies, Stand by Me and Home Alone. He loved his daughters immensely and they will miss him dearly. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Raymond C. Barela; grandparents: Gregorio and Josie Barela, Rocky and Jesusita Graziano; Godmother, Velia Lara and Josie Trujillo.
Survivors are his daughters: Madison Lynnae Barela and Miley Raygen Barela; bonus daughter, Carly Franco; mother, Grace Barela; sister, Jessica Castro and husband, George; brother, Jeron Barela and wife, Shaylynn; nieces: Taylor Barela and Tori Anne Castro; nephews: Hunter Ty Castro and Noah Castro; Godfather, Richard Graziano; great-nieces and nephews: Rylan “Mookie”, Myla, Tyen “Gordy” and Marlee Franco.
Pallbearers will be Jeron Barela, Sam Campos, Chad Barnes, Fernando Gonzalez, Sr., Fernando Gonzalez, Jr. and Hunter Ty Castro. Honorary pallbearers will be George Barela, George Castro, Noah Castro and Eddie Sing, Jr.
