Gary R. Hieter, age 89, of Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 25, 1935, in Page, Nebraska, Gary lived a life defined by hard work, creativity, and generosity.
Cremation has taken place. No services are scheduled.
In his early years, Gary worked in copper mines before dedicating the majority of his life to the oil fields across the country, primarily as a driller. Known for his strong work ethic and quiet determination, he made a lasting impact on everyone he worked with.
Outside of work, Gary was a skilled woodworker with a passion for making toys and artistic pieces. He found joy in creating and giving, sharing his talents and kindness with everyone around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Gladys Hieter; daughters Elizabeth Rodriguez, Nilsa Rodriguez, and Mary Williams; his brother, Theodore Hieter; and sister, Lois Thompson. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry his legacy forward with love and pride.
Gary was preceded in death by his son, Gary L. Hieter; his parents, Theodore and Alice Hieter; and his brother, Leroy Hieter.
Gary will be deeply missed, but his warmth, craftsmanship, and giving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
