Federico “Fred” Lara of Carlsbad, NM, passed away on September 27, 2025.
Born March 2, 1957, in Pecos, Texas to Juanita Lara. Fred’s life was shaped by many challenges. In his early adult years, he became disabled and faced many physical and personal trials over the years. Though his life was not an easy one, he met it with a quiet resolve and tried to do what he could with what he had.
Fred may not have been a perfect person – none of us are – but he was kind, sincere, and did the best he knew how to do. He offered what he could and tried in his own way to be present in the lives of those around him. His heart was good, even if his path was not always easy.
Fred was a lifelong Dallas Cowboy’s fan who enjoyed spending time with his friends and family telling stories about his many adventures and younger years and of course watching the Cowboy’s play. He enjoyed listening to and singing his favorite Tejano music. Before his disablement, Fred was a great dancer and pool player.
He is survived by his daughters: Lupe Lara (Joleen), Yvette Lara, and Michelle Salcido (Pete); grandchildren: Lonnie Lara (Lynette), Jayden Lara, Evan Lara (Justice); great-grandchildren: Leilani, Lonnie III, Nazareth.
Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 16, 2025 at San Jose Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating.
