Frank was born on December 12, 1963, in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Francisco A and Nicolasa V. Chacón. He attended elementary and middle school in Loving, New Mexico and graduated from Carlsbad High School (CHS) in 1981.
Frank had a life-long passion for music. In high school, he participated in the Orange Bowl Parade in Miami, Florida, as part of the CHS marching band. He went on to play in the PRIDE OF New Mexico Marching Band at New Mexico State University (NMSU) where he was also a part of many award-winning bands. He almost made college his profession since he loved music so much. At NMSU he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration. There is not a music instrument that Frank hadn’t played; in fact, he collected musical instruments form other countries to learn to play them.
At a young age, Frank began to play Tejano, Country, and Top 40 band music in which he was able to play at numerous weddings, anniversaries, New Year’s parties, and other community events. He started that music career within the Carlsbad community before moving to Las Cruces. He ended his music career a few years ago, with his band of brothers, Caliente. He had recorded albums with a couple of different bands and recently put those on Youtube.
Frank had an impact on many lives. For twenty-five years, Frank shared his musicianship with the students at Gadsden Middle School. Thousands of students would pass through his classroom doors where he taught jazz band, marching band, choir, and guitar. Frank was so proud of his students and enjoyed reconnecting with them as they moved into adulthood.
Although Frank’s passions were music and teaching, he did not love anything more than his family. He was always proud of his children and their accomplishments – he spoke about them all the time. Frank continuously called family and friends to catch up and was always interested as to what was going on in their lives. He displayed pictures of family and friends proudly in his home.
Survivors are his daughter, Rebekah Chacon of Las Cruces, NM; son, Francisco Chacon of Las Cruces, NM; step-son, Joshua Tenorio and wife, Monique Rodriguez-Tenorio and their daughter, Kaia Tenorio; parents: Francisco A. and Nicolasa V. Chacon of Loving, NM; siblings: Freddie Chacon and wife, Patricia of Loving, Sylvia Chacon of Loving, Linda Chacon of Loving, Robbie Chacon and wife, Denise of Carlsbad, Raquel Chacon and fiancé, Todd Looney of Loving, Rafael Chacon of Loving, Nicole Gonzales and husband, Antonio of Albuquerque, and Pedro Chacon and wife, Agnes of Albuquerque; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
