Felix O. Florez, 67, passed away December 2, 2025 in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM, Monday, December 8, 2025 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home followed by a vigil at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at San Jose Catholic Church with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Felix O. Florez was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on December 30, 1957 to Francisco M. and Elida (Ortiz) Florez. He was raised in Malaga, NM where he developed a love for music, playing saxophone with the Malaga School Band. He spent his childhood on the baseball field with the Malaga Tigers. Felix later graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1976.

At the age of sixteen, Felix began working as a cook at the Best Western Motel, beginning a career he enjoyed for many years. In 1996, he moved to Mescalero, where he worked as a groundskeeper for the Inn of the Mountain Gods. He eventually returned home to Carlsbad where he spent his days cruising back roads, listening to oldies, woodworking, and making memories with those he loved.

Felix is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco M. and Elidia O. Florez; his brothers: Frank O. Florez, Rosendo O. Florez, and Alejandro O. and wife, Kathy Florez; sister-in-law, Beverly Florez and brother-in-law, Tony Rangel.

He is survived by his daughters, Felicia Florez and Carla Sandate; granddaughters: Sadie and Sienna Rodriguez, Alyssa Sandate and Amariah Morales; great-granddaughters, Ariella and Camilla Mendes; brothers: Pat O. Florez, Floyd and wife, Mary Florez, Fernando and wife, Darla Florez, Danny and wife, Norma Florez, Ernest and wife, Anna Florez; sisters: Fern Rangel, Faye and husband, Art Arias, Florine and husband, George Hanna. Felix is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members who loved him deeply and whose names though were not individually listed were each important to him.

Pallbearers: Kevin Florez, Jarod Florez, Brady Florez, Floyd Jr. Florez, Michael Florez, Jamie Florez, and Artie Arias.

Felix affectionately known as “Moc” will be remembered as a bright, joyful spirit who filled every room with laughter, warmth, and the kind of light that will remain with us forever.

Felix’s family would like to extend appreciation to Amber Care and his beloved neighbors.
