Federico M. “Fred” Calderon, 91, of Center Ave., Carlsbad, NM, passed away peacefully February 16, 2026.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM, Friday, March 6, 2026 at San Jose Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park, Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Fred was born December 11, 1934 in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico to Julio and Angela (Muñoz) Calderon. He married Frances Martinez February 22, 1962, here in Carlsbad. Fred owned and operated Fred’s Garage for many years where he repaired farm equipment and was known for being able to fix anything with a motor. He loved spending time with family and attending church at San Jose Catholic Church. Fred enjoyed watching western movies while eating cookies and ice cream. Fred was quite the prankster and loved to make others laugh with his many jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances M. Calderon; brothers: Mariano Calderon, Julio Calderon, Domingo Calderon; sisters: Carmen Sing, Venita Delgado, Concepcion Huerta, Manuela Calderon, Ramona Sainz, Margarita Herrera, and Isidra Parra.
Survivors are his daughter, Grace Rodriguez and husband, Steve of Carlsbad, NM; granddaughter, Stephanie Rodriguez and Brandyn Jordan of Albuquerque, NM; brother, Jose Maria “Chema” Calderon and wife, Carmela of El Paso, Texas, Martha Dorame of Phoenix, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Steve Rodriguez, Brandyn Jordan, Edward Rodriguez, Jr., Edward “RJ” Rodriguez, III, Bernie Morales, Jr., Richard Jimenez, and Manuel Herrera. Honorary pallbearer is Roland Martinez.
The family would like to express gratitude to the teams of Enhabit Hospice, Good Life Senior Living, and Dr. Julio Munoz for their excellent care of Fred throughout the years. He will be greatly missed, but his family will honor him by continuing to live by his favorite saying “Si se puede, de debe” (If you can, you should).
