Ernestine Bryan, 91, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Ernestine was born on March 8, 1932, in Chalk, TX to Ernest and Lometa Harris.

 

Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday, May 12, 2023, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Sunset Church of Christ with Mike Veilleux officiating. Burial will follow at the Carlsbad Cemetery. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Ernestine graduated from high school in Delwin, TX in 1949, and then went to college graduating from Drones Business College. She married her sweetheart Tommie on November 17, 1950, in Paducah, Texas. They moved to Carlsbad in 1953 where she and Tommie raised their family and worked together in their own business, Bryans Cushman Sales. They shared a beautiful love story of 70 years together. They left behind a legacy of faith, family, love, and laughter. Ernestine was a cherished wife, mother, and precious granny. She covered the walls of her home with photos of her beloved family. She made everyone feel special and loved like they were family. Ernestine blessed countless people with her handmade potholders, lap quilts, baby blankets and her famous brownies. It is estimated that she made well over 28,000 potholders, and they have been sent all over the world. If you do not have one of them, you have been living under a rock!

 

Ernestine was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Harris; mother, Lometa (Burkes) Harris; husband, Tommie Bryan; grandson, Tony Hotter; two great grandchildren: Chellsey Riley and William Hotter; and four siblings: Edward Harris, Charles Harris, Hazel Eudey, and Rosie Cravey.

 

Ernestine is survived by her three children: Tommie Duane Bryan and wife, Dove of Roswell, NM; Glenda Carol Willard and husband, Terry of Burbank, OK; and Tammy Thompson and husband, Dan of Carlsbad, NM; eight grandchildren: Tessa Spencer (Nathan), Chad Thompson (Julia); Scott Hotter (Julie), Rodney Bryan, Steve Barnes (Shelley), Sherry Kinkade (Darrell), Stacy Willard (Tracy), and Lora Miller, nineteen great grandchildren: Anna, Sarah, Noah, Nate, Chevy, Grace Michael, Leslie, Andrew, Melonie, Wyatt, Demetri, Angeliki, Dalton, Cody, Austin, Reese, Haley, and Hillary; four great great grandchildren: Toni, Bailey, Nolan, and Christopher; seven siblings: Billie Harris of Wilson, OK; Raymond Harris of Carlsbad, NM; Johny Harris and wife, Linda of Carlsbad, NM; Larry Harris and wife, Debbie of Carlsbad, NM; Roger Harris of Carlsbad, NM; Lena Cooper and husband, Willis of Mesa, AZ; and Shirley Crabb and husband, Bill of Carlsbad, NM; beloved caretaker and partner in crime, Sandra Williams of Carlsbad NM; honorary daughter #3, Jan Booker of Las Cruces, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Pallbearers will be: Delton Cravey, Timmy Harris, Nathan Spencer, Chad Thompson, Chevy Thompson, and Troy Williams, III.
