Erma Lee Newton

Erma Lee Newton was born May 24, 1922 to Melvin Embry and Ovella Brooks Embry at Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, Kiowa County. She died August 14, 2009, at the Landsun Home. On August 20, 1938, she was married to JW Newton. JW was ordained with the assemblies of God in 1956, but pastured his first church in Granite, Oklahoma, in 1952 before his official ordination. The Newtons were senior pastors of Assemblies of God churches in Oklahoma, West Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. They pastured the Westside Assembly of God in Carlsbad, New Mexico, whose building later burned, was rebuilt and renamed Calvary Assembly. Rev. and Mrs. Newton retired in Carlsbad to be near their son Dennis. Erma Lee worked in Women's Ministries as Sectional Director for the Assemblies of God in most of the states where they ministered. She was a lover of Gospel music and published two of her own compositions. Her parents, one brother, and her beloved husband JW preceded her in death. Survivors include daughter Nancy Henegar and husband Joe, son Dennis Newton and wife Phyllys Harrel Newton, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Lone Wolf Cemetery in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held Sunday August 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Dayspring Fellowship Church in Carlsbad. Condolences may be expressed at www.dentonwood.com
