Earl W. Diggs

Earl W. Diggs, 82, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Carlsbad Medical Center.  Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 10, 2024 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Dennis Durfee officiating.  Interment will follow in Carlsbad Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Carlsbad, NM.  Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.  Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 

Earl was born November 25, 1941 in Charlotte, North Carolina to J.D. and Belzora (Greene) Diggs.  He passed away 64 years to the day he proposed to Connie.  They were married December 25, 1960 in El Paso, Texas.  Earl enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1958 and served in Fort Jackson, SC, Fort Leonard Wood, MS, Fort Bliss, TX, Germany, Fort Benning, GA, and fought in the Vietnam War.  He then joined the Texas National Guard and retired as 1^st Sergeant with NM National Guard in 1994.  Earl worked as a blaster and helped in building the Transmountain Road in El Paso, Texas.  He worked for MSHA as a mine inspector for ten years.  Earl then worked as a safety director for Mississippi Potash before retiring in 1997.  After retiring, he spent his days spoiling his grandchildren.  Earl was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Rebecca, Tina, and Sue, and great-grandson, Bryce.

Earl is survived by his wife of 63 years, Connie Diggs; four children: Earl Diggs, Jr., Llewis Diggs and wife, Susan, Nancy Rios and husband, Ernesto, and Suzanne Diggs; grandchildren: Earl, III, Kathleen, Robin, Alexandria and husband, Patrick, Andres, Anastasia and husband, Steven, Kate, and Natalie; great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Jonathan, Julia, December, Kimberly, Miles, and great-great-grandson, Theo; sister, Sandra; brother, Tom; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
