Dr. James Jones

Dr. James Jones, Jr., age 75, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on March 1, 2026 at his home.

James was born January 6, 1951, in Augusta, GA, to James and Freddie Mae (Lumpkins) Jones, Sr. He graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School in Augusta, GA in 1969. James enjoyed education as he attended Southwestern Christian College, Abilene Christian University, International Seminary, Southwestern Law School, Rochville University and Lydon State University ultimately receiving a Ph.D and Th.M. He married Rachel May 3, 2003 in Augusta, GA. James had a passion for preaching as he started preaching at the age of 14. He worked in ministry his entire life including church ministry, marriage counseling, prison ministry, grief counseling and chaplaincy. James retired from Lakeview Christian Home as hospice chaplain and served as minister at Fox & Lake Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Betty King and Barbara Ford, brother Roy Jones.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Jones; daughters: Demonah L. Jones, Shavon O. Caise, Latessa D. Moland; brother-in-law, Adolphus King, Sr.; sister-in-law, Christine Jones and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Fox & Lake Church of Christ. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
