Obituary Dorothy Owens, 89, of North Guadalupe Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico passed asway on Monday, January 6, 2020, at Carlsbad Medical Center surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on August 5, 1930, in Mobeetie, TX to B.C. and Onie Dennis. There will be no visitation, and a graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 9, 2020, at the new section of the Carlsbad Cemetery Carlsbad, New Mexico. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of making arrangements. At the age of four, Dorothy and her family moved to Portales, NM where she began school. Later, they moved to California for two years, and then returned back to Portales where she graduated from high school. While in high school, Dorothy met the love of her life, Bill Owens, and they later got married on April 3, 1949, in Clovis, NM. They moved to Carlsbad, NM in July 1950 and started their family, having three children. For work, Dorothy started as a telephone operator with US West for one year, and then worked for thirteen years with Weight Watchers as a clerk and lecturer, until she retired in 1990. Dorothy was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, and was very involved with different ministries there. Dorothy also enjoyed crafts, sewing, and spending quality time with her friends and family. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, B.C. Dennis; mother, Onie Dennis; daughter, Debra Ann King; and brother, V.B. Dennis. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Bill Owens of Carlsbad, NM; son, Robert Owens and wife, Terri of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Carolyn Nance and husband, Bobby of Carlsbad, NM; four grandchildren: Chris Owens, Stacy Owens, Leighanne Wright, and Chad Nance; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Betty L. Jackson of San Angelo, TX; and several nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flower, the family has asked the memorial contributions be made to the New Mexico Christian Childrens Home: 1356 NM 236, Portales, New Mexico 88130.
