Dickie J. Means, 73, of Poplar Street, Loving, NM, passed away June 12, 2022 at his home. Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.  Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Cavern Baptist Church with Owen Lofton officiating. Interment will follow in Loving Cemetery.

Dickie was born June 6, 1949 in Las Cruces, NM to John Hardin Means, Sr. and Leola (Germillion) Means.  They moved to Carlsbad when Dickie was 3 years old.  He attended school in Carlsbad and Loving until moving to Sonora, Texas during his freshman year.  They returned to Carlsbad shortly after and then moved to Dell City, Texas.  Dickie graduated from Dell City High School in 1967.  He worked many jobs: farming, ranching, road work, equipment operator, potash miner, cable TV, insurance and real estate sales and manufactured housing. Dickie’s greatest calling in life was to serve Jesus. He pastored Cavern Baptist Church in Carlsbad for the past 11 years.  Dickiewas passionate about his love for Jesus and he wanted everyone to share that same relationship.  Dickie had a special place in his heart for kids and often talked in his “Donald Duck” voice which they loved.  He was very proud of his kids and grandkids, and especially cherished his wife, Lavonn.  Dickie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: John Hardin Means, Jr. and Troy Gilmore and nephew, Steve Means.

Survivors are his wife, Lavonn Means of Loving, NM; daughter, Amy Jo Russell of Artesia, NM; stepson, Donny Collier and Kendra of Carlsbad, NM; stepdaughter, Sharay Collier of Carlsbad, NM; daughter in Christ, Amanda Mashaw and husband, Ray of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Whitney Sartin, Chaz Sartin and wife, Tiersa, Ashlen Nygren and husband, Trevor and Melinda Collier; great-grandchildren: Lylli Parsons, Lucas Parsons, Ashten Sartin and Quinten Hernandez; siblings: Aubrey Means and wife, Barbara of Buckhorn, NM, Dawsie Germillion of Albuquerque, NM, Colleen Elderfield of Clebourne, Texas and John Gilmore of Carlsbad, NM; sisters-in-law: Martha Ann Kyser and Rhonda Gilmore, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers are Marty Lewis, Leslie Lewis, Samuel Cooksey, Mattie Cooksey, Tater Sanders and Tambra Burris.  Honorary pallbearers will be the 2012 Loving Falcon Football Team.
