David Winters

It is great sadness that we announce the passing of David Winters, 66, of Carlsbad, NM on June 8, 2025 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.

Memorial service will be held at Denton-Wood Funeral Home on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 10:00 AM, with Chaplain Terry McKean officiating.

Dave was born June 1, 1959 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to John E. Winters and Jackie R. (McElroy) Winters. He married Yvonne Smithers, a country girl from Dell City, Texas, on May 20, 1978. They had just celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.

Dave was known for his love of the great outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping trips with his boys. Most evenings you could find him sitting on the front porch with his beloved dogs, Rowdy and Bo. Dave will be remembered for his honesty and integrity. He was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey in live was one marked by great love and compassion for his family. Dave’s passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and all who were close to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Winters; father-in-law, Doc Smithers; mother-in-law, Mildred Smithers, and his beloved dogs, Juice and Rhino.

Dave is survived by his wife, Yvonne Winters; sons: Chance Winters, Chase Winters and wife, Amber, Jeremy Dowdy; brothers: Don Winters and wife, Renae, Rick Madrid, and a legacy of six grandchildren: Morgan (Seth), Hannah, Gunner, Daisy, Laci, and Colton Winters, and many extended family members and friends.

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rain fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
