Charles E. Nelson, 82, of Carlsbad, NM, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Carlsbad Medical Center.  Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023, 10:30 AM at Carlsbad First Assembly with Pastor Brad Coates officiating.

 

Charles was born October 26, 1940 in Cliff, NM to Carl E. and Ellen (Horn) Nelson.  He graduated from Dell City High School in 1958.  Charles married Shirley Hill January 30, 1964 in Dell City where he worked as a cotton ginner for several years. The family later moved to Carlsbad, NM where Charles worked as an electrician for Duval Potash until Duval sold. 

 

Charles and Shirley then moved to Los Alamos where he worked in the laboratory until retiring in 2013 at which time they decided to return to Carlsbad. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed taking his grandson, Chase fishing.  Charles loved the Lord first and was actively involved at Carlsbad First Assembly of God. He enjoyed listening to music and studying New Mexico history. You would often find him tinkering in his shop, listening to music and reading. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Carl and Ellen Nelson.

 

Survivors are his wife, Shirley Nelson; son, Charles Kevin Nelson and wife, Natalie; grandchildren: Chase R. Nelson and wife, Brooke, Stormy Mariah Garcia; great-granddaughter, Rayleigh H. Nelson and another on the way; sisters: Doris Lilly, Ruth Markham and numerous nieces and nephews.
