Charlene King Parnell, 73, of N. Halagueno Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Lakeview Christian Home.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, 2012, 10:30 AM, at Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Philip Huston officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in Union Highland Cemetery, Florence, Colorado.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Charlene King Parnell was born February 28, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois to Charles and Lorraine (Geitner) Newlan. She married Thomas Payne King on August 5, 1961 in East Peoria, Illinois. They lived many years in Colorado before moving to Carlsbad in 1994. Char was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and was a long member and officer of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing, cross stitch, camping and hiking. Char also volunteered over 25 years with Girl Scouts of America. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Payne King; daughter, Stephanie Lynn King and sister, Sylvia Pippin.
Survivors are two daughters: Koreen Guillermo and husband, Carl of Carlsbad, NM, Tanya O'Sickey and husband, Matt of Powhatan, VA; four grandchildren: Brianne West and husband, Randel of Oklahoma City, OK, Nathan Guillermo of Carlsbad, NM, Gabrielle O'Sickey of Powhatan, VA, Alexander O'Sickey of Powhatan, VA; three brothers: Lewis Newlan and wife, Treva of Foley, Al, James Newlan and wife, Paula of Clinton, TN, Edward Newlan and wife, Terry of Washington, IL, Carol De La Cruz of Pontiac, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
