Cecilia "Sally" Carrasco

Cecilia “Sally” Carrasco, 76, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Sally was born on June 11, 1947, in Artesia, NM to Manuel and Lola Huerta.

Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. A Rosary is scheduled for 10:30 AM Thursday, July 20, 2023, at San Jose Catholic Church, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM with Fr. Juan Carlos Ramirez officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Sally had 5 brothers and 5 sisters. She met David Carrasco in high school and he said he knew instantly he wanted to marry her. They were married in 1968 and he has spoiled her ever since. They then move to Albuquerque for a little while, before moving to Carlsbad. They stayed in Carlsbad, and Sally started working at ECEC as an instructional assistant. Sally retired from ECEC in 2010. She loved working with kids and would still see previous students that she remembered.

Sally was known by everybody for always matching from head to toe. She loved anything bling. She enjoyed shopping, bingo, going to the casino, the holidays and spending time with her family especially her kids and grandkids. Sally started her fight with breast cancer in 1987 and was given radiation and went into remission. In 2010 the cancer came back and she started chemo. The cancer soon turned into metastatic breast cancer, meaning it had traveled to other parts of her body. Over the next 13 years she battled cancer off and on until she finally lost the fight on Friday July 14, 2023. She was an extremely strong lady. Her departure leaves a void of love and compassion for those that knew her. Her love for her family was evident in the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Sally was preceded in death by her father, Manuel Huerta; mother, Lola (Segoviano) Huerta; and six siblings: Ben Huerta, Chilo Huerta, Johnny Huerta, Manuel Huerta, Jr.. Henry Huerta, and Helen “Granny” Huerta.

Sally is survived by her husband, David Carrasco of Carlsbad, NM; four children: Regina Garcia and husband, Freddy of Carlsbad, NM; David Bryan Carrasco and wife, Yesena of Carlsbad, NM; Anthony Carrasco and wife, Jana of Carlsbad, NM; and Chris Sillas of Chandler, AZ; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; four sisters all of Artesia, NM: Angie Martinez; Betty Hernandez and husband, Jimmy; Corina Gurrola and husband, Dale; Gracie Tesillo and husband, Daniel; and numerous nieces nephews, and cousins.
