Carl Wayne Tanner, Sr., 81, of Coleman Road, Carlsbad, NM, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at his home.  Cremation has taken place and services will take place at a later date.

Carl was born May 12, 1941 in Carlsbad, NM to James Polk and Elouise (Johnson) Tanner.  He married Mary L. Teeter July 8, 1960 in Carlsbad. Carl was an auto mechanic his entire career and worked at several shops including Guy Chevrolet, Danny’s Automotive, Ross Hyden and Bill’s Truck Stop.  He loved animals and they were naturally drawn to him.  Carl was a loving man and always took good care of his family.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Loretta Hazel; son-in-law, Gordon “Skip” Hazel; son, Carl W. Tanner, Jr.; sisters: Shirley Lane and Linda Lane; brothers: Kenneth Tanner, James Tanner and Dennis Tanner.

Survivors are his wife, Mary L. Tanner; daughter, Lori Tanner Smerer; son, Jimmy Tanner and wife, Misty; grandchildren: Tausha Caudill, Elvis Caudill and wife, Maria, Chatham Tanner and wife, Kora, Codey Tanner, Catelynn Tanner, Arailus Gere and L.J. Tanner; great-grandchildren: Rachel, Arizona and Alexandria; sisters-in-law: Mytle Jennings, Imogene Smith, Edna Rogers and Joy Stevens and numerous nieces and nephews.
