Buck Thurston, 70, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the Carlsbad Medical Center. Buck was born on January 2, 1954, in Covington, KY to Charles Thurston and Virigina Martin.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 PM Friday, May 31, 2024, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor David Rogers officiating. Condolences may be expressed online at dentonwood.com

Buck worked for the passed 12 years at RDL Excavation and Construction, where he made friends for life. He was a hard worker, and always loved to stay busy. Even throughout his busy work schedule, he always made time to call his wife, Barbi every single day, making the distance feel not so far. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Buck was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Thurston; step-mother, Teresa Thurston sister, Jackie Thurston; and brother, Brad Thurston.

Buck is survived by his wife, Barbi Thurston of Angel Fire, NM; daughter, Dustee Thurston of Elk City, OK; two grandchildren: Blazen Todd and Rhonni Mitchell; step children: Julie Lovet of Guadalupita, NM; Traci Oddo and husband, Robert of Los Cruces, NM; Karly Banker and husband, Kevin of Mangum, OK; and Bradley Hawkins of Angel Fire, NM; step granddaughter, Claylie Briann Hawkins; mother, Virginia “Jenny” (Martin) Rafferty of Montana; three sisters: Gina Willson and husband, Shawn of Elk City, OK; Osha Thurston of Woodward, OK; and Laura Carney of Montana; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and RDL family.
