Bobby Ellis Wilson, 77, of Sandia Street, passed away January 9, 2010 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Visitation will be 12:00 noon - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 2:30 PM, at Sunset Church of Christ with Allen Isbell, Brian McGonagill and D. L. Harguess officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Bobby Ellis Wilson was born December 3, 1932 in Hereford, TX to Jim Ellis and Ruby Mae (Petree) Wilson. He attended first grade in Hereford, second grade in Abilene and then in 1940 he moved with his parents to Carlsbad. Bob graduated from Carlsbad High School. On January 2, 1951 he enlisted in the US Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. After serving four years, he was honorably discharged. Bob married Rachel Waldrop on August 26, 1955 in Carlsbad. He was an electrician at National Potash, Duval, AMAX and retired from Pennzoil Sulfur in 1992. Bob loved his family and also his loved ones in Alabama. He enjoyed helping his kids and grandkids with any and all of their projects. Bob could often times be found helping on various projects at his church as well. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill; sisters: Helen and Nell; brothers-in-law: Curtis Waldrop and Lloyd Cochran and grandson, Jeremy White. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Wilson of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Debbie Wilson White of Carlsbad, NM; two sons: Randy Wilson and wife, Brenda of Carlsbad, NM and Terry Wilson of Carlsbad, NM; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Haschets, Jordan White, Johnny, Robby, Brandon, Shaeleigh, Tyler, Ashleigh and Rhyanna Wilson; three great-grandchildren: Kourtnee and Cayley White, Colby Haschets and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Steve McGonagill, Mark McGonagill, Jimmy Wilson, Brandon Wilson, Tyler Wilson and Jordan White. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountainview Christian Camp c/o Sunset Church of Christ, 1308 W. Blodgett, Carlsbad, NM 88220. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com.
