Betty Joy Atchison

Betty Joy Atchison, 89, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away September 15, 2009 at Landsun Homes Health Care Services. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2009, 1:00 PM, at Grace Episcopal Church with Father Rod Hurst officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Betty Joy Atchison was born December 10, 1919 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Harold O. and Frances (Black) Thune. She was a pianist and violinist and played in several symphonies in Michigan and later in Phoenix, AZ. Betty Joy also was skilled in weaving, spinning and needlework. She moved to Carlsbad last year and has resided at Landsun. Betty Joy attended Grace Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George J. Atchison; daughter, Shirley E. Wise and brother, Robert Thune. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Clark and husband, Graydon C. of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren, Angie Clemmons of Minot, ND; great-granddaughters: Paige Clemmons and Kadence Clemmons; sister, Mariellyn Runyan of Iowa and brother, Thomas Thune and wife, Gloria of Iowa.
