Obituary Bettie Redden, 85, of West Cherry Lane Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Bettie was born on September 29, 1935, in Cottonwood, New Mexico to J.K. and Mary Funk, Sr. Cremation has taken place, and private services will be held at Sunset Church of Christ. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Bettie grew up in NM, and graduated from Lake Arthur High in 1953. Later that year, she married the love of her life, E.H. Redden, on December 5, 1953, in Dexter, NM. They then started their family of four wonderful children. Bettie began her working carrier at the First National Bank in Artesia, then worked from home as a water clerk for Lake Arthur in order to raise her family. In December of 1971, the family moved to Carlsbad where she began working as a receptionist for the Carlsbad Municipal School District and Century where she retired from in 1994 to take care of her mother. Bettie enjoyed traveling, sewing, was a member at Sunset Church of Christ, and especially loved babysitting her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Bettie was preceded in death by her husband, E.H. Redden, Sr.; father, J.K. Funk, Sr.; mother, Mary Funk; four brothers: James Funk, J.K. Funk, Jr., Fred Funk, and Garland Funk; and two sisters; Joan Grassie, and Barbara Shelton. Sister Wanda Whatley followed her in death on Thursday, December 10, 2020. Bettie is survived by her son, E.H Sandy Redden and wife, Carri of Roswell, NM; son, Terry Redden and wife, Janice of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Melinda Martin of Midland, TX; daughter, Diane Smith of St. Clair, MO; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
