Bette Rae Walker Campbell was born in Trinidad, Colorado on December 18, 1929 to Clabe Eston Walker and Juanita Miriam (Brown) Walker. Following her graduation from high school her family moved to Silver City, New Mexico and then to Carlsbad, New Mexico. She Married Samuel Allan Campbell on January 30, 1950. Bette Rae had three Children, Susan Annette Campbell, Thomas Clabe Campbell and Winston Allan Campbell. Bette Rae was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Carlsbad where she served as Deacon, Elder, Clerk of Session and Secretary of the Deacons. She joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1953 and was a member for 65 years. She loved to play bridge and supported the local American Contract Bridge League. The American Contract Bridge League honored her with a Goodwill Ambassador Pin for ACBL and also with Goodwill Ambassador Pin for District 17. She was a life master of the game. Bette Rae moved to Tucson, Arizona in May of 2015 to be near her daughter and joined the St. John of the Desert Presbyterian Church and remained a member until her death. Bette Rae was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Samuel Allen Campbell, sons, Thomas Clabe Campbell and Winston Allan Campbell, brother, Virgil Lee Walker who she nicknamed "Tinker" before he was born and the name stuck and he used it his entire life, and nephew Bradley Walker. Bette Rae is survived by her daughter, Susan Campbell Haney of Tucson Arizona and many cousins including Fred Pope of Pensacola, Florida and Carrie Morris and family of Durango, Colorado. Bette will be buried next to her husband at Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
