Beca Bedingfield Standard

Beca Sue Bedingfield Standard spent her last days on earth, surrounded by family before peacefully walking into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, January 15, 2023. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 24, at Sunset Church of Christ in Carlsbad, New Mexico with Mike Veilleux officiating.

Beca was born October 10, 1948, in Artesia, New Mexico to J.E. and Beatrice (Harlow) Bedingfield. She always called Artesia home, going to school there and graduating from Artesia High School in 1966. On August 26, 1965, Beca married her soul mate, Gary Standard, in Artesia, New Mexico. They went on many adventures and lived in many places, including: Maljamar, New Mexico; Lubbock, Texas; Twin Falls, Idaho; Aztec, New Mexico; Greeley, Colorado; Lompoc, California; Lemoore, California; Carlsbad, New Mexico; Riverton, Utah; and Midland, Texas, where she was living at the time of her death. She worked as a homemaker and secretary for G&S Hot Oil Services and Standard Services, businesses she and Gary started and operated. Beca and Gary had three children – Jamey, Shaun, and Kristy. Beca was always supportive of the kids and all their endeavors, traveling thousands of miles to football, baseball, track, cheerleading competitions, plays, choir events, and pageants. She became Mammaw as grandchildren were born into the family, and she continued to take road trips adding basketball, golf, and volleyball into the mix. Beca and Gary exemplified a Christian marriage, and she was a saint in all that she did, mirroring the image of Christ. This was demonstrated by cooking amazing food for her family and others, and through cradle roll and children ministries. Beca was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Wayne Bedingfield, and sister, Lorene Lewis.

Beca is survived by her husband, of more than 57 years, Gary; brother, John Bedingfield, and her three children, Jamey Standard and his wife, Weslyn (Neeld), Shaun Standard, and his wife Tammy (Brixey), and Kristy Smith, and her husband, Jamey, all of Midland, Texas. Grandchildren Tyler, Tanner, Talyn Trent and her husband Royal; Shauna Rowlett and her husband Alex; Colby Standard and his wife Kallie (James); Tyezen, Zaiden, Meagan, Dakotah Smith and his wife, Angela (Gowdy). Great grandchildren Jaycee, Maddox, and soon to arrive, Baby Girl Trent, Helena and Matilda Smith. Beca loved the color purple, yellow roses, and most of all, her family.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, consideration be given to making a donation, in Beca’s honor to: alzheimers.org, Sunset Church of Christ Cradle Roll/Children’s ministry, Hospice care, or a non-profit of choice. Honorary Pallbearers are the many couples Gary and Beca met throughout their life, in many different states, that provided hours of support, love, food, and laughter. The Celebration of Life Service will be available on the Sunset Church of Christ Carlsbad NM Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sunsetcarlsbad) for anyone who might not be able to attend in person.
