Bessie Jayne Freeman was born on September 2, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, to Billie Evelyn (Righter) and Samuel Castro. She passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Jayne spent her early years in Southern California and graduated from Perris High School in 1954. The following year, she married Vince Goeke and began a life devoted to raising her six children, living in California and Missouri before settling her young family in Carlsbad in 1966—a place she would lovingly call home for nearly six decades.
In 1984, Jayne married Ralph Freeman, with whom she shared many happy years. She retired from Holiday Inn, later returning to work for the Eddy County Sheriff’s Department transporting inmates until her second retirement.
Known for her warm smile, kind heart, and gentle words, Jayne was deeply devoted to her church and Sunday school. She found joy in sewing special gifts for her grandchildren and, together with Ralph, spent many cherished days camping and fishing in their RV during retirement.
Jayne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Freeman; her former husband, Vince Goeke; her brother, Jack Blair; and her sister, Joanne Castro Fleischer.
She is survived by her children: Debbra Simpson (Rick) of Frisco, TX; Vince Goeke (Lori) of Sierra Blanca, TX; William Goeke of Carlsbad, NM; Diana Dolan (Jack) of Carlsbad, NM; Jack Goeke (Patty) of Elbert, CO; Ron Goeke (Susan) of Los Ranchos, NM; Paul Fleischer of Lakeland, FL; LeRoy Freeman (Karol) of Topeka, KS; and Carolyn Pierce (Harold) of Texas. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her love and faith.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel, 1001 N Canal St, Carlsbad NM 88220.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Christian Home, 1905 W. Pierce St., Carlsbad, NM, where Jayne made her home for nearly two years.Jayne’s life was one of faith, kindness, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
