Audrey was born on December 9, 1926 in Trinidad, Colorado to James T. Elmore and Blanche E. (Hargrove) Elmore. During her early years, the family moved a lot due to the depression trying to find work. They eventually settled in Clovis, New Mexico where Audrey graduated from High School in 1943.

After graduation, Audrey attended business school and worked at the local movie theater as an usher, and did bookkeeping for a local car dealership. In 1943, Audrey met Kent Leon Leslie and they married in Clovis on January 20, 1945 in her parents’ home. In 1947, their daughter, Kay Leslie was born, followed by James Leslie in 1949. Their family was complete. The family moved to Carlsbad a few years later just before Kay started to school. Audrey began working in accounting in 1955 and worked for various firms in Carlsbad until 1984 when she opened her own home bookkeeping service for another 5 years.

The Leslie’s were charter members of Epworth Methodist Fellowship where Audrey was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending in 2021 and was the last living charter member. She also spent many years singing in the church choir and holding the position as church treasurer. As the kids grew up and were involved in activities, Audrey was always

there to support them. She even played the part of a school marm in the Little Theatre play “Tom Sawyer” because Jim had the role of Huck Finn. After John Tigert joined the family and was coaching softball, Audrey became an avid softball fan and was still attending games into her 90’s. Audrey was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 50 years receiving the “The Order of the Rose”.

Audrey was loved and respected by everyone who knew her but her greatest gifts were her family. She loved to tell anyone who would listen about them and would beam when they came to visit. She especially loved helping all the grandkids make Christmas cookies each year.

Audrey is survived by children, Kay Tigert (John) of Carlsbad, and Jim Leslie (Merry) of Las Cruces; Grandchildren Kelley Haley (Tony), Brady Tigert (Susan), Mandy Garen (Max), Summer Tyler (Trevor), and Hannah Levinson. Great Grandchildren: Cori Cate (Jarod), Ryane Haley, Ridge Haley, Skylar Haley, Matthew Tigert, Brenden Tigert, and Madalynn Tigert. Great, Great Grandchildren: Peyton Haley, Canyon Cate, Everest Tyler and Crosby Cate, and her sister, Roberta Lansford, as well as many nieces and nephews. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Kent Leslie, her parents Tom and Blanche Elmore, her brother Jim Elmore, and grandson, Ritchie Leslie.
