Antonio "Tony" Edward Campos, Sr.

Antonio “Tony” Edward Campos, Sr., 70, of Carlsbad, NM passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Tony was born on December 12, 1953, in Carlsbad, NM to Erineo and Lilia Campos.

Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, May 24, 2024, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Chaplain Joe Lopez officiating. Interment will follow at the Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, NM. There will be a meal following the cemetery at the Knights of Columbus Hall, and everyone is invited to bring a dish and enjoy a time of fellowship with the family.

Tony grew up in Malaga, NM playing in ditches and helping his family pick cotton. He graduated from Carlsbad High School, and then married the love of his life, Drusilla Aragon, on June 29, 1976. They then started their family, and Tony joined the National Guard where he honorably and faithfully served his country. He then went on to work at several potash mines for 30 years, until he retired. Retirement didn’t last long due to Tony’s enjoyment of working. He started at Allsup's and then went onto drive for the Carlsbad Transit, where he got to meet new people everyday.

Tony was always known for his big charismatic  personality and was the life of the party. Having never met a stranger, he could talk to anyone and make them feel at home. He enjoyed giving nicknames to his friends and family, and would go out of his way to help others. Tony was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and there was never a quiet game when he was around. He enjoyed going to his grandson Kobe’s sporting events, and caught his grandson Kobe a ball at his last game. He was proud of his children, loved his family with his whole heart.

Tony always looked forward to the weekend, and would always start his Friday evenings with cracking open an iced cold Budlight beer and listening to tejano music in his mancave. He always cooked the best red chile and fajitas, and always loved eating Annette’s homemade tacos. Tony also enjoyed going camping, listening to Cruising with Pete and Roy Mercer, watching Family Feud and Sanford and Sons, and telling people, “You better know the rules” and “You bet”! Tony was truly a source of joy and light to everyone around. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Tony was preceded in death by his father, Erineo U. Campos.

Tony is survived by his wife, Drusilla Campos of Carlsbad, NM; three children: Antonio Campos, Jr. of Las Cruces, NM; Annette Morton and husband, Robert, Jr. of Carlsbad, NM; and Justin Armon Campos of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; mother, Lilia Campos of Carlsbad, NM; six siblings: Erineo “Alonzo” Campos and wife, Hortensia; David “Orlando” Campos and wife, Eva; James “Jimmy” Campos and wife, Maria; Elizabeth “Lisa” Chavez and Scott Bucher; Christina “Christy Trejo and husband, Ingacio; and Madelena “Mary” Schneider; and numerous extended family and friends.
