Amy Miles Johnston

Amy Miles Johnston, 55, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, with her mother by her side during an overnight, early morning thunderstorm—Amy’s favorite type of weather.

A celebration of Amy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Leo Sweet Community Center, 1302 Mission Ave.

Amy was born on September 29, 1969, in Crane, Texas, and moved to Carlsbad in 1974. She graduated from CHS in 1987 and went on to spend over three decades in the professional pet grooming industry, owning and operating Amy’s Pet Parlor. Amy had a rare and genuine gift with animals—she was a true “animal magnet” who could calm the most anxious pet and win over even the most skeptical furry friend. Over the years, she rescued, fostered, and cared for countless animals, never turning away one in need.

Amy had a vibrant, unapologetic spirit and lived life with authenticity and humor. She loved all things mystical and magical, but also the Divine. Her laughter was infectious, her heart was enormous, and her ability to bring joy to those around her—and to bring people together, even the most eclectic, march-to-their-own-drum kind of souls—will never be forgotten. We all loved her for it.

She was preceded in death by her infant twin brother and sister, and her beloved aunt, Joy Chamberland.

Amy is survived by her three sons, Brendan Johnston, Gage Johnston, and Presley Johnston; her mother, Dorothy Parker; father, Stanley Miles; stepmother, Debby Chote; brother, Marcus Miles and wife, Amy Lynn; sisters, Megan Lima and husband, Neil, and their daughter Evie; Shelby Booth and husband, Keith, and their daughter Kennedy. She is also survived by nephews Brandon Lee and wife, Paula, Thomas Johnston, Corey Johnston, Nathan Johnston, Wesley Miles; nieces Megan Chester and husband, Adam, Julia Reza and husband, Alex.

Amy’s legacy is one of compassion, loyalty, and love—for people, for animals, and for living life on her own terms.

Memorial contributions may be made to Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter, 5217 Buena Vista Dr., Carlsbad, NM 88220, or to Carlsbad Cares Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, 4007 S. John Wesley Hardin Court, Carlsbad, NM 88220, so that her lifelong passion for helping animals may continue in her honor.
