Willis Lavoy Schierholt, 78, of Georgia Street Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Carlsbad Medical Center. Lavoy was born on January 10, 1941, in Hagerman, NM to Willis and Bernice Schierholt.
Lavoy graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1959. After graduating, he spent five years in the National Guard followed by marrying the love of his life, Tamara Pond, on April 16,1965. In that same year, Lavoy started his 17-year career working at IMC. He was a lover of nature and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and passed along that same love to his children and grandchildren. Above all, Lavoy loved Jesus. He was a long-time member of Blodgett Street Baptist Church, during which he spent 35 years being a shepherding Deacon, taught bible classes, read and studied the Bible daily, and brought many people to know his Lord and Savior. Lavoy was a kind and caring person, and loved spending quality time with his friends and family. He will be missed and remembered always.
Lavoy was preceded in death by his father, Willis John Schierholt; mother, Bernice Marie (Rhodes) Schierholt; step-mother, Juanita Ridgeway Schierholt; daughter, Nickolle Schierholt Finn; step-brothers, Robert and Kemp Schierholt.
Lavoy is survived by his wife, Tammy Schierholt of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Lisa Marie Schierholt of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Danielle Jon Burton and husband, Tony of Carlsbad, NM; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Schierholt and wife, Barbara of Nevada; brother, Glenn Schierholt and wife, Lori of Nevada; step-sister, Gayle York of Carlsbad, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Blodgett Street Baptist Church with Pastor David Prell officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at dentonwood.com
