Harold “Butch” Sowers, 78, of N. Guadalupe Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
There will be no visitation; cremation will take place. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Ryan officiating. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Harold “Butch” Sowers was born March 31, 1939 in St. Clairsville, OH to John and Molly Sowers. They moved to Carlsbad NM in 1949 when Butch was 10. Butch served in the US navy from 1958 through 1962. He married the love of his life, Linda Nunley-Sowers in 1961 and they had 3 children: Julie Pat Sowers, Harold Glen Sowers and Richard Michael Sowers.
Butch worked at AMAX in Carlsbad for 34 years. He served as a special Sheriff Deputy with the Eddy County Sheriff’s department for several years. Butch was also a volunteer Fire Fighter and Search & Rescue member for the Queens Fire Department for several years. He was a wonderfully devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Butch was an avid hunter and loved the outdoors, especially the Queens, he knew all the best places to hunt, hike and camp. He loved family trivia night. Butch also loved having get-togethers with family and friends, playing horseshoes and washers and just enjoying the company and good food.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, John and Molly Sowers; daughter, Julie Sowers-Willis; great-granddaughter, Liberty D. Sowers; brothers: Rick Sowers, Eugene Sowers and John Sowers, Jr.; sisters: Jeaine McDonald and Virginia Hudock.
Survivors are his wife, Linda Nunley-Sowers; sons: Buzzy Sowers and wife, Agatha and Michael Sowers and wife. Kathryn; grandchildren: LaShawna Krause and husband, J.D., Jeremy Sowers and wife, Camela, Whitney Willis, Mika Wood and husband, Wes, Dillon Sowers, Cydnie Sowers and Sid Methola, Zack Ellis, Ben Sowers, Morgan Willis, Nicole Tickle and husband, Troy; 13 great- grandchildren; adopted children: Greg and Denise Cote; siblings: Patricia Vincenti and husband, Frank and Leona Morse.
