    Gene K. Tarvin, 84, of Howard Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas.

   A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2017, 2:00 PM, at Loving Baptist Church with his son, Pastor Jimmy Tarvin officiating.

   Interment will follow in Loving Cemetery, Loving, New Mexico.

   Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.

   Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

   Gene K. Tarvin was born January 27, 1933 in Aspermont, Texas to Jim Mack and Tomer Lee (Mobley) Tarvin.  He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.  Gene married Verna Ruth Backues June 12, 1954 in Lovington, NM.  He began his long time career in the salt mines in 1960 where he worked over 38 years.  Gene married Sue Rider October 7, 2006.  He loved blue grass music and played 5 string banjo and guitar for many years.  He wrote two novels and researched numerous cemeteries putting the information online.  Gene was a member of the D.A.V. and American Legion.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna Ruth Tarvin; two brothers and two sisters.

   Survivors are his wife, Sue Tarvin; son, Walter Tarvin and wife, Debbie; daughters: Linda Isbell, Valerie Isbell and husband, Alvin, Ora Lee Tarvin; son, Jimmy Tarvin and wife, Anna, all of Loving, NM; stepsons: Ralph Rider, III of Carlsbad, NM, Kevin Rider and wife, Anne of Albuquerque, NM; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brothers: Bill Tarvin, Jimmy Tarvin and Larry Tarvin; sisters: Jewel Rosas and Tomer Stinson and numerous nieces and nephews.

   Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
